What is Peer Observation Training?
This two-part workshop series is designed to equip faculty with the skills and strategies needed to carry out constructive, non-evaluative teaching observations. The emphasis is on professional growth, collaboration, and mutual learning – not performance evaluation. While the techniques learned can inform evaluative practices, the primary focus is on formative development.
Workshop Format and Scheduling
Workshops are offered by request for specific faculty groups and should take place during an active teaching term. The two sessions are spaced to allow time for participants to observe their peers in between sessions. A typical schedule might include:
- Late September: Workshop Part 1 – 60 minutes, in person
- October: Faculty conduct peer observations of 1–2 colleagues
- Early November: Workshop Part 2 – 60 minutes, in person
This hands-on, collaborative format ensures faculty have time to apply the concepts between sessions and return with real experiences to discuss and reflect on.
