Midterm Student Feedback

The Midterm Student Feedback process is a CTE facilitated process that provides instructors with valuable insights into what is working well in their courses and what could be improved – while there’s still time in the semester to make meaningful changes.

What is Midterm Student Feedback?

This feedback process is facilitated by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) to help instructors gather and interpret input from students. It offers a structured opportunity to reflect on teaching practices, make adjustments, and enhance communication with students.

CTE administers a survey that includes both quantitative and qualitative questions. After collecting responses, we compile the results into a clear, actionable report. A CTE staff member then meets with the instructor for a one-on-one consultation to:

  • Interpret the feedback
  • Identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement
  • Plan responsive teaching strategies
  • Support transparent follow-up communication with students

This process fosters a cycle of reflection, responsiveness, and continuous growth.  The original survey instrument and methodology were developed by Dr. Claudia Cornejo Happel and colleagues at Embry-Riddle University, based on the Critical Teaching Behaviors (CTB) framework.
