Background

Leigh Ramey currently works as the user experience librarian at Beaufort County Library. Prior to this role, she was the youth services consultant at the South Carolina State Library from 2021-2025. She worked as a youth services supervisor and children's librarian in other public libraries in South Carolina and Colorado. She also taught as an adjunct with the University of Denver from 2019-2024.

Research

Ramey is interested in research topics related to children's and teen library services and is especially interested in those pertaining to early literacy & play as well as offsite outreach projects and programs through public libraries.

Teaching

Ramey currently teaches a children's literature course and a young adult materials course at the iSchool and loves discussing these exciting and ever-evolving topics with students and colleagues. In her classes she likes to share her broad experiences working with children and teens in public libraries, consulting and training on library and literacy topics at a state library, serving on book award committees, and youth outreach on bookmobiles and other community events. Ramey values the unique perspectives and backgrounds of her students and welcomes an open exchange of ideas!

Service

Ramey is a member and volunteer with the South Carolina Library Association, American Library Association, and current board member of CSLP — the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

Personal

When not working (or reading, of course), Ramey enjoys a good road trip, beach days, live music and theatre, kitty cuddles, hiking, watching movies and spoiling her niece and nephews.
