If you’re looking for a career in teaching and research at the highest levels, or research and management with mass media companies, consider our Ph.D. program. Our program is small and selective, giving students substantial flexibility to tailor their coursework and area of study to their particular career goals. We fund four or five students each academic year. Check out these 10 reasons why you should choose us for your doctoral education.
Our Ph.D. students are chosen after careful consideration of their background, academic record, experience and, particularly, their personal statement. Most applicants have at least a year, and often much more, professional experience.
Our students must have completed a master’s degree prior to starting the doctoral program. It doesn’t have to be in journalism or mass communications, although if not, additional coursework might be required.
Our students take a total of 57 credit hours — 45 credit hours of coursework and 12 dissertation credit hours.
