Academic Advising

UAC Committees

The UAC instituted advisor committees following the results of a climate survey distributed to Undergraduate Academic Advisors in the fall of 2019. The results of the survey pointed to advisor interest in having a greater voice including in advisor training and professional development, and advisor engagement and recognition.

University Advising Center Training and Professional Development Committee

The Training and Professional Development Committee helps guide the development and maintenance of the Advisor Training & Certification program, ensuring that the content is accurate, relevant, and timely. This committee also plans and facilitates the monthly UAA staff meetings. 

  • Employed as an Undergraduate Academic Advisor or an Exploratory Advisor
  • Value and desire to improve the training and professional development experience for advisors at USC
  • Attend & participate in scheduled meetings  
  • Complete any assigned tasks
  • Advocate for the Advisor Training & Certification program

UAC Undergraduate Academic Advisor Consulting Group

The UAA Consulting Group comprises seasoned and trusted UAAs who have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the UAA initiative for both students and advisors. The Consulting Group provides non-binding strategic advice and feedback to the University Advising Center Admin Team on the operations of undergraduate academic advising. In the past, the Consulting Group has provided valuable feedback on topics such as:

  • Advisor retention efforts
  • Development of the UAC SharePoint
  • Advisor mentoring initiaitives
  • Changes to advisor communications
  • Updates to the Advising Survey
  • Revisions to the USC Advising Syllabus
  • Employed as an Undergraduate Academic Advisor for at least one full year. 
  • Level 2 certified 
  • Attend & participate in scheduled meetings
  • Complete any assigned tasks and provide feedback in a timely manner
  • Keep information shared among group members confidential
  • Advocate for the continued strategic advancement of the UAC
  • Understanding and appreciation for University of South Carolina culture
