Internal Dual Process

An internal dual appointment is additional, part-time, temporary employment within the university for faculty and staff. See HR Policy 1.78.

1. Determine eligibility

The HR unit contact confirms that the employee is a faculty or staff member in an FTE position.

2. Complete the request form

  1. Complete all required sections of the CAS Internal Dual Request Form.
  2. Email the completed form to the CAS HR manager.

3. Complete the college review

  1. The CAS HR manager checks eligibility and confirms that all required sections of the form are complete.
  2. The CAS HR manager reviews whether the additional duties are in the employee’s home unit and confirms that they fall outside the employee’s primary duties.
  3. The CAS HR manager confirms that the payout will not exceed 30% of the employee’s annual salary per fiscal year.
  4. CAS Budget/Grants, the associate director of HRFA and the associate dean review and approve the request and its funding.
  5. The CAS HR manager completes the approval section of the form and returns it to the HR unit contact.

4. Submit the action

  1. Complete the Internal Dual Appointment Letter Template and have the employee sign it.
  2. The requesting unit submits an Additional Assignment eForm in PeopleSoft.

Internal dual requirements

  • The appointment cannot exceed one year.
  • The effective date must be the 1st or 16th of the month.
  • The payout cannot exceed 30% of the employee’s annual salary per fiscal year.
